Hi Jen, thanks for the encouraging comments! I realised why I am finding my google reader so hit and miss. It puts the entries in the “past” – not when I read and “share” them, but rather when the items were originally posted. So I feel like it isn’t a stream that represents “my” activity, but the activity of others. Is this just a quirk of google reader feeds, or is this a lifestream thing? If I share something I would like it to appear on the date I share it, rather than 5 days ago when it was posted.
hm – that’s interesting. That isn’t how the delicious and diigo lifestream feeds work, certainly – they are dated according to your activity. I guess Google Reader is a different sort of beast – but I understand what you’re saying about it not feeling so much like yours. Maybe a useful way of thinking about it is like a collection of newspaper clippings, though – it’s the collection and curation of it that makes it yours, even though you’d always be stuck with the original paper’s date… ?
That will work! I think the stream will naturally catch up with me too… as I start posting more up-to-date feeds. Now, how to get rid of this inappropriate profile icon
I just changed my email address from my work to my personal one and as I already have a now defunct Wordpress blog it seems to have synchronized my profile, ha! I will probably have to log in to that old dashboard and change the profile icon from there. 
how did you make your avatar/icon in the first place? Where does it live? I’d like to make one also.
As far as I can see you need to create an account at wordpress.com (which is the free blog site as opposed to .org which is for the downloadable platform) using the same email address you are using here. Then you go to your profile (by clicking on your name in the top right of the screen) and you have the option to upload a “gravatar” from your comp. Then come back here and with a little ctrl+F5 your image is visible. I have no idea why we don’t have the gravatar option in the downloadable platform (the dashboard is otherwise identical) unless it is an option that administrators have turned off or it is one of those universal functionality doodahs like open ID and can’t be used on a “closed” space like a privately hosted blog.
