End of week 2 summary

Week 2 was somewhat difficult for me as additional work commitments did not allow me to put in as much effort into the MSc course as I had hoped.
Some of the  recommended articles were easier than other with the story telling part of the Bell article in regards to the History of Computing quite common knowledge I guess. The Poster article and its association with Sergio Leone’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Virtual) somewhat tenuous..
Strangely enough and by accident I also did some block 2 reading (D. Bell, Community & Cyberculture).

The Film Festival was thought provoking with more emphasis on dystopia than utopia. But then Futurologists tend to be doom mongers – change management issues at a large scale…
The Twitter experience I have commented on previously – and I’m still struggling with making use of Twitter from a pedagogic point of view.

There is also still the problem in getting onto the DB using EASE logon.

Overall I now get a feel for the subject area which is not native to me. And next week will sadly also provide me with a heavier workload at work.

Digital Artefact creation – any ideas?

Although it is still a week away I thought I enter some brainstorming in regards to what the theme of the Digital Artefact project is meant to be.
And a brief discussion on Twitter lead me to an idea.
The discussion was about the role of robots on humans and vice versa and who will ultimately shape the fate of the other.
The theme of robots was obviously also present in the film festival on (Stop Dave, Space Odysee and Bladerunner.

In my particular Digital Artefact I would like to explore the cultural expression in images, cartoon,  sculpture or even toys within the genre of Robotic Art.
I will highlight how different types of people view robots, to wha t extent robots mimic human expression, behaviour and possibly desire and how does feeds back to us.
I will most likely use MS PhotoStory 3 using images collected from a number of sources such as Flickr, PicasaWeb and GoogleImage.
